River Kayaking Safari
Traveler Type: Cruise Passenger
Activity Type: Kayaking on the Old Belize River
Skill Activity Level: Beginners to experienced but physically fit.
TOUR DESCRIPTION:
A tender transfer to Belize City and a short drive up the Northern Highway will bring
you to the village of Grace Bank on the Belize River. Your tour guide will brief you on
kayak handling, safety procedures and the expectations of the river. Gentle currents
assist you and allow opportunities to rest and observe the wildlife and surroundings.
The noiseless approach of the kayaks allows you to sneak up on basking crocodiles,
iguanas and sunbathing turtles. Overhead, troops of Howler Monkeys may be spotted.
The river foliage of Bamboo Forests and Cohune and Royal Palm trees is home to many
species of birds. Once at the recovery site, approximately eight miles down river, at the
village of Burrel Boom, refreshments and a locally prepared lunch is served. After lunch,
and a rest period, you will be returned to the local dock for your tender transfer back to
the cruise ship.
